More About Timber

Timber is recognised by its species – ranging from exotic to indigenous wood types. There are various species of timber that originate from all over the world – from Malaysia to Europe and Africa. South Africa is particularly well known for its timber and the Garden Route area is home to a very wide variety of top quality indigenous wood types.

The various species differ in hardness, colour and grain. Some of the more commonly known timber species we use are Cape Yellowwood, Pine, Stink Wood and African Teak.

Wood is one of the oldest materials used by mankind for construction. This is mostly due to the fact that is readily available, easily and economically fabricated and can be moulded into varieties of sizes, styles and shapes for any type of building or technique.

Timber has many properties, which makes it a sought after construction material such as:

  • Tolerant to Moisture & Shrinkage
  • Excellent Heat Insulator
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Renewable Resource
  • Strong and Lightweight
  • Easy and Safe to Install
  • Cost Effective
  • Durable
  • Beautiful
